Tea and coffee has been a common beverage for centuries; in fact, most individuals begin their day with these beverages! As a result, a spill is almost certain to happen. As these beverages include tannins from plant components, they can quickly absorb into the fibres of your upholstery. Despite the fact that decaffeinated drinks does not include this, they can leave unsightly dry yellow/brown stains. As a result, if stains are left too long, they may be more difficult (even impossible) to remove.
Please don’t worry; our services at London Carpet Cleaning, but also online and over the phone. We recommend you to contact us and ask any questions you may have; we will be delighted to walk you through the process of removing your stain. We cannot stress enough how critical it is to remain cool and act quickly to avoid the tea or coffee sinking into the rug’s fibres. Your outcomes will be more successful if you react quickly.
What are some helpful hints before you begin?
TIP#1: Although we do not recommend putting chemicals on your upholstery, if you insist on doing so. Because of the tannins in the drinks, use an acid-based stain remover.
TIP #2: Bleach should never be used! (or goods using bleach) You will just destroy your rug, sofa, or carpet, and we will be unable to repair the damage.
TIP#3: If the stain is old and dried, do not try to remove it at home since we cannot guarantee a successful outcome.
TIP #4: Treat the stain fully to prevent the stain from permanently dyeing the fibres of your once-immaculate rug or carpet. Even though websites recommend buying remedies online, not all chemicals will work with the fibres in the rub and the substances in the beverage stain. Because you were ignorant of the consequences, your upholstery colour may have been irreversibly altered.
How to extract beverage stains from your rugs?
- Soak up all of the stain using a white sponge (not coloured to avoid further harm to the rug due to colour transfer) to prevent it from sinking any further into the carpet than it already has.
- Continue dabbing with the sponge and blotting it (see here for the dabbing method) TIP: Be cautious not to transfer the stain from the beverage to other locations.
- Soak the moist sponge in half a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and lukewarm water. Continue to wipe the stain. DO NOT RUB THE STAIN, since this may cause harm to the rug’s fibres.
- Continue washing the sponge to avoid transferring any soaked-up stain back onto the rug.
How to remove tea and coffee stains from your carpets?
- Using an absorbent cloth, soak up as much of the stain as possible.
- Use COLD water to rinse the stain. Because gas bubbles force the stain upwards, soda water or sparling water may help remove the stains more effectively.
- Blot the stain with a white paper towel to absorb as much of the stain as possible.
- If you want to apply a stain remover, now is the time to do so. However, we highly advise that you test it on an unnoticed section of the carpet first, so you can detect any responses that may occur, which might result in irreversible harm to your upholstery. Continue blotting until all extra liquid has been removed, then let the stain air dry. If the stain remains, repeat the procedure if necessary.
Do you require further assistance?
Sofas should be cleaned using the same methods as carpets. Excess moisture might cause mildew, so be careful not to oversaturate the cloth. Professional cleaning is recommended for silk or antique upholstery, as home cleaning may result in water stains.
For a number of reasons, the suggested technique may not work; nevertheless, if doing it yourself did not solve the problem, it would be preferable to have one of our expert specialists at London Carpet Cleaning UK perform a quality stain removal service.
